Responsible gambling
Betting costs money. This page sets out what that means in practice, the controls available on every GRSBET account, and where to get free help — from people who are not us.
1. Our position
We are a commercial bookmaker. Every market we offer carries a margin, which means that across all customers and over time, more money is lost than won. We would rather say that plainly than let the way this site is designed imply otherwise.
Because of that, we hold ourselves to four commitments:
- We do not describe betting as an investment, an income, or a way to make money.
- We do not advertise inducements to open an account, which is prohibited in New South Wales in any case.
- We offer a deposit limit during sign-up, before a first deposit is possible.
- We act on a request to close or exclude without asking you to justify it.
2. Knowing the risk
Gambling harm is not only financial. It shows up in relationships, work, sleep and mental health, often before the money runs out. The warning signs below are the ones most commonly reported by people who later sought help.
- Betting more than you planned, or more often than you planned.
- Chasing losses — increasing stakes to recover money already lost.
- Betting with money set aside for rent, bills, food or other essentials.
- Borrowing to bet, or selling possessions to fund betting.
- Hiding the amount you bet from a partner, family or friends.
- Feeling restless or irritable when you try to cut down.
- Betting to escape stress, boredom, loneliness or low mood.
- Losing interest in things you used to enjoy.
Recognising one of these does not mean you have a gambling problem. Recognising several, repeatedly, is worth a conversation with someone qualified. The services in section 6 are free and do not require a referral.
3. Tools on your account
Every control below is available from your account settings without contacting support first. None of them requires a reason.
- Deposit limits
- Set a daily, weekly or monthly cap on what you can deposit. Lowering a limit takes effect straight away; raising one only takes effect after a waiting period, so the decision is never made in the heat of the moment.
- Take a break
- Close your account temporarily for a period you choose. You cannot log in or place a bet until the break ends, and we stop sending you anything in the meantime.
- Self-exclusion
- Exclude yourself from GRSBET for a minimum of six months or permanently. A self-exclusion cannot be reversed early, and any balance is returned to you.
- BetStop
- BetStop is the National Self-Exclusion Register. Registering once excludes you from every licensed online and phone wagering service in Australia, not just this one.
- Activity statements
- See what you have deposited, staked and lost over any period. The numbers are shown plainly, including net position, so nothing is hidden behind a headline figure.
- Account closure
- Close your account permanently at any time from your account settings, or by contacting support. We process closures without asking you to justify the decision.
How limit changes work
A reduction to a deposit limit takes effect the moment you confirm it. An increase is held for seven days before it applies, and you can cancel it at any point during that period. This is deliberate: the seven days exist so that a decision made in the middle of a losing run is not the decision that sticks.
4. Self-exclusion
Self-exclusion closes your account to betting for a fixed period or permanently. While an exclusion is running you cannot log in, deposit or place a bet, and we stop sending you any communication other than what the law requires.
- Minimum period. Six months for a GRSBET self-exclusion.
- No early reversal. An exclusion cannot be lifted before it expires, by you or by us. Asking will not change it.
- Your balance. Any remaining funds are returned to a verified account in your own name.
- After it ends. The exclusion does not lapse automatically into an active account — you have to ask for the account to be reopened, and there is a cooling-off period before it is.
BetStop — the National Self-Exclusion Register
BetStop is the Australian Government register that excludes you from every licensed online and phone wagering service in Australia in a single step, not just from us. Registration is free, takes a few minutes, and runs for a minimum of three months up to a lifetime.
Licensed operators are required to check the register, and we check it when an account is opened and at every login. To register you need a mobile number, an email address and an Australian identity document.
betstop.gov.au — assistance on 1800 238 786.
5. Under 18s
It is against the law for anyone under 18 to open a wagering account or place a bet in Australia. We verify identity and date of birth before an account is fully activated.
If we find that an account holder is under 18, the account is closed, all bets are void and any deposits are returned. Winnings are not paid.
If children use a device you also use for betting, filtering software can block gambling sites at the device level. Products such as Net Nanny, Qustodio and Family Zone are commonly used for this; we have no commercial relationship with any of them.
6. Free support services
These services are independent of GRSBET. None of them will report back to us, and using them has no effect on your account unless you ask for one.
- Gambling Help Online — 1800 858 858
- The National Gambling Helpline. Free, confidential, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, anywhere in Australia. Counselling by phone, online chat and email at gamblinghelponline.org.au.
- GambleAware NSW
- Free counselling and financial counselling across New South Wales, including support for family members affected by someone else’s gambling. gambleaware.nsw.gov.au.
- BetStop
- The National Self-Exclusion Register. One registration excludes you from all licensed Australian online and phone wagering services. betstop.gov.au.
- Lifeline — 13 11 14
- Crisis support and suicide prevention, 24 hours a day. Not gambling-specific, but if things have reached that point, call them first.
- National Debt Helpline — 1800 007 007
- Free, independent financial counselling for people struggling with debt. Operated by community organisations, not by lenders.
7. If it is someone else
You do not have to be the person betting to be affected by it, and you do not have to wait for them to ask for help before getting some yourself. Gambling Help Online and GambleAware NSW both support family members and friends directly.
You cannot self-exclude someone else from GRSBET or from BetStop — the law requires the account holder to make that decision. What you can do is contact support@grsbet.co if you believe an account is being operated in breach of our terms, for example by a minor or by someone who has already self-excluded.
8. Talking to us
If you want to set a limit, take a break, self-exclude or close your account and cannot do it yourself, email support@grsbet.co. Requests of this kind are actioned as a priority and we will not try to talk you out of it.
